We have 3 Camps at Tom Sawyer that serve different age groups:
- PRE-CAMP: For campers ages 3-5 (Preschool/TK). Campers are in coed groups of 12-13 and are grouped by age.
- DAY CAMP: For campers ages 6-10 (K to 4th grade). Campers are in single sex groups of 13 and are grouped by age.
- OUTPOST: For campers ages 11 to 14 (5th to 8th grade). Campers are in coed groups of 16 and are grouped by age.
We have two paid levels of Counselor at TSC across all of our summer positions: Senior Counselor and Assistant Counselor
Senior Counselors must be in first year of college (or equivalent) or older at the time of application submission. See Senior Counselor section for more details.
Assistant Counselors must currently be in either 11th or 12th grade at the time of application submission. See Assistant Counselor section for more details.

- Team of 2-3 counselors placed in one of our 3 Camps (Pre Camp, Day Camp, or Outpost)
All Camp Specialist Counselors:
- Horse Counselors/Wranglers
- Swim Counselors/ Lifeguards

Outpost Specialist Counselors:
- Rock Wall Counselors
- High Ropes Counselors

How to Join Us! Next Steps
Summer 2024 Applications Open December 11th!
Step 1: Thoroughly read the information guide for the position which you are applying and make sure you can fulfill the requirements.
Step 2: Use the “Apply Now” Button to access the online application. Make sure you designate whether you are applying as an Assistant Counselor or a Senior Counselor.
Step 3: Schedule and attend an interview. We hire on a rolling basis and positions are limited.
Note: All Counselors are required to attend mandatory training dates: June 1 through June 8. Camp dates are June 10 through August 9. Counselors must commit to working Monday-Friday for their assigned dates and attend Staff Meetings held every other Wednesday evening. There will be no camp on July 4. It is strongly recommended that all staff be fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19
Senior Counselors
Currently in first year of college (or equivalent) or older at the time of application submission.
Should enjoy the outdoors, working with children, and being on a collaborative team.
Senior Counselors are trained to be given more responsibility in their position and will be responsible for mentoring and supervising younger staff members. Senior Counselors are supervised by one or more TSC Directors.
Required to complete Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR (with AED) certification prior to camp (Additional certifications needed for specific positions). TSC will offer courses for staff to complete this requirement during the week of training; June 1st through June 8th
Must attend ALL assigned staff training dates to be prepared for summer. Training is during the week of June 1st to June 8th
Must work Monday-Friday for the assigned dates.

Assistant Counselors
Currently a high school Junior (11th) or Senior (12th) at the time of application submission.
Assistant Counselors trained for and are given specific set of responsibilities and are supervised by their designated Senior Counselor as well as one or more TSC Directors.
Should enjoy the outdoors, working with children, and being on a collaborative team
